British Grown Wedding Flowers

I am getting married in August next year and am currently struggling to find a florist that is willing and able to provide what I want in terms of flowers for the big day. My partner and I are trying to make our wedding as environmentally friendly as possible and therefore I want to have British flowers, preferably locally grown but at least all from within the UK. All of the florists I have spoken to have been really unhelpful saying that they cannot do this and only import flowers from Holland or sometimes as far away as Africa. I would personally prefer to have no flowers at all than take this option. Can you help? I live in Burton on Trent in Staffordshire

A I can understand your concerns here. When we started the business we made sure that we used only recyclable products for all our bouquets and even delivered the flowers by bicycle courier in the town. We do however have problems sourcing flowers grown in the UK. We can sometimes get hold of some larkspur or gladioli that have been grown in the local area, but it is difficult to source UK grown cut flowers. One reason for this is that we do not have the most guaranteed weather to make it easy to grow a product for a certain season. Something I could suggest is that you get your flowers from someone like the real flower company, that actually grow the flowers themselves. They do provide wedding flowers to order over the web.
