Real Dream Weddings... Paul and Philippa at Pelham House Hotel

Philippa and Paul both wanted a traditional wedding with a classic theme of soft colours and fragrant flowers with many personal touches to make a truly memorable day.

Paul and Philippa met at primary school and were inseparable from 7 years old. They lost touch after first school and met again aged 27 at a friends wedding. Philippa had been invited to the wedding and Paul gate crashed with his brother! Paul proposed on their first anniversary and took Philippa for a romantic overnight stay at Amberly Castle, Sussex. The next day he took Philippa on a treasure hunt visiting all the places they had been on their first dates. When they arrived at each venue the waitress would bring their drinks and a card made by Paul who is a Graphic Designer! Their romantic day ended at Broadwater C of E First School in Worthing, where they first met. Paul got down on one knee against the school wall where they had once played kiss chase and proposed. He then presented a gorgeous diamond necklace and Links of London charm in the shape of a solitaire ring for Philippa's bracelet. They then set a date to have Philippa's diamond and platinum solitaire engagement ring made. All designed and made by Jan Warrington in Brighton Lanes as were their wedding rings.<br /> Philippa's wedding dress had a pleated bodice, corset back and full skirt. It came with a jewelled brooch on the hip but Philippa removed that and had a silk flower made by Lucy Bennett, Bridal dressmaker. Lucy also made a tulle shrug for the evening and added extra netting and a bustle into dress. Her veil was waist length ivory with a wide ribboned edge. Something old was a handkerchief Philippa's mum gave her on the day, it got a lot of use!. New was her wedding dress and jewellery, borrowed was a garter from a friend and blue was her lace underwear. Philippa's necklace, bracelet and earrings were freshwater pearls and diamonds bought her husband-to-be and her tiara was from Blossom Tiaras and matched her jewellery. Lucy Bennett made six bridesmaids full length champagne satin dresses with wide, ivory, pleated, trailing sashes. The four older bridesmaids had strapless dresses with a puddle train and kitten heel champagne satin sandals from Top shop and the two younger girls had A-line dresses with small straps and champagne satin ballet pumps from Dune.
Philippa's hairdresser created an up-do with delicate crystals and pearls interspersed around softly curled hair. The bride and bridesmaids all had their hair done at the Look Fantastic Salon in Worthing. Philippa's classic make-up was soft pinks and browns and her eyes were framed by glamorous Hollywood Lash extensions! Lucy Bennett made Paul's ivory cravat, complementing Philippa's wedding dress. The remaining male wedding party wore Champagne cravats to match the bridesmaid dresses. Everyone had an ivory rose buttonhole with the exception of Paul who had a pink rose from Pollen.
"I really enjoyed walking down the aisle with my dad, a very special moment for me, slightly nervous but very excited the day had arrived." Apple Down Cakes created a traditional style wedding cake for the couple consisting of two fruit and two lemon sponge tiers, with ivory icing, decorated with fresh roses from Pollen. Ivory Ice Queen roses, pale pink candy Bianca roses and scented Jasmine, the perfect balance of soft colours and fragrance that Paul and Philippa wanted to achieve. The bouquet was a teardrop with the bridesmaids carrying smaller hand tied bouquets. Trailing jasmine entwined the banisters of the hotel staircase. Rose petals adorning fireplaces, windowsills and tables interspersed with tea lights. Several large pedestals with tall glass vases and domed arrangements had been staged throughout the hotel. Flowers and decorations were created by Pollen Florists.
140 guests attended the wedding service at St Andrews Church " I was overcome by tears throughout the whole service as soon as I heard Paul speak and had to say my vows through tears. Paul was nervous but calm and fairly relaxed throughout!" Canapés and Pimm’s were served in the gardens of Pelham House Hotel whilst Pianist Iain Rae entertained everybody. "Slight disaster when our toastmaster was involved in a minor car accident on the way from Kent and therefore couldn’t make it but the hotel manager stepped in at the last minute!" A 7 piece band called Funktonite from London kept the dance floor packed all night. They sang Paul and Philippa's first dance, which was Stevie Wonder’s, You are the Sunshine of my Life. A hot buffet was served in the evening and a fantastic 12-minute firework display was provided by Festival Fireworks. "The DVD is one of our most loved keepsakes from the day. We would recommend having a DVD to any couple getting married as it captures the mood, spirit and tenderness of the day far better than any picture ever could and you both get to see so much of what you missed on the day!"<br /><br />
