Real Dream Weddings... Katrina and Andrew at Gosfield Hall, Essex

Katrina and Andrews whirlwind wedding at the gorgeous Gosfield Hall included thoughful details that wow'd their guests.

Katrina and Andrew's wedding was a "whirl-wind". They booked the venue in March and got married in May! "We didn't want the planning of the wedding to take over our lives and just wanted to get on and do it. The planning was mainly done by me with a lot of help from Julie Patmore of Gosfield Hall, who was invaluable, especially when my hairdresser let me down." Classic cream roses were chosen for the men's buttonholes. As pretty as a picture one of the beautiful flower girl's in a reflective mood.
In spite of Andrew sensibly holding his stag night 3 days before the wedding one of his 5 best men was unable to attend as one of the best men was attacked on the Stag night. On the morning of the wedding he had to have an operation to rectify a broken jaw and obviously missed the whole thing. Fortunately the Groom had chosen to have 5 best men, so they still had 4 to rely on! The bride wore a fabulous dress by Maggie Sottero which she found in a local boutique in West Sussex. "It was a pale apricot colour which I absolutely loved and I definitely felt like a princess." In spite of Katrina's search for a dress that her bridesmaid could wear on other occasions they finally chose a design that although perfect for a bridesmaid let it be said she'll probably never wear it again! The fabulous wedding cake was a stunning focal point for the reception
The fabulous wedding cake was a stunning focal point for the reception One of Katrina's memories of the ceremony was when she found herself slightly confused when she walked down the aisle " I was looking for my Mum and couldn't understand why she wasn't in her seat, then I realised that Andrew's Mum and Dad had been seated on the wrong side and my Mother (obviously coming in at the last minute) was sitting on the Groom's side. With four best men and one usher, you'd have thought someone would have helped the Groom's parents! Like many brides Katrina confessed to have been slightly nervous for her walk down the aisle "My husband wouldn't tell me what song I was walking down the aisle to, so when I heard Beautiful by Joe Cocker I was already crying as I took my first steps down the aisle! It was comforting to see that my future husband was also crying though! "
Katrina forgot about her wedding flowers until the last minute but was thrilled with the florist recommended by Gosfield hall "How could such an important element have passed me by?!! Again, Julie came to the rescue with the name of a local lady who made up the designs I had posted to her. Again the interpretation of everything was perfect Katrina and Andrew didn't have a specific theme but focussed on making their guests feel comfortable and entertained. "We arranged for guests to stay overnight at Gosfield Hall as we were conscious that the wedding was short notice, no-one had had time to save for the expense and we wanted to make it pleasurable for everyone. A large number of guests had children so we booked a balloon modeller that we had seen at Bluewater. He was fantastic making Road Runner, Bugs Bunny etc for the children. We made sure that the children had gifts to play with and we also made sure there were plenty of chocolate dipped strawberries for everyone! This aspect seems to have been the most memorable for the women!!" One of Katrina's special moments was captured perfectly by her photographer "The walk that you do after the civil ceremony, going down to have your photographs taken. Sarah, the photographer kept all of the guests back as she wanted to take photos on the stairs and in the library, that was a special time as she captured photos of us just talking and being excited about the wedding. We felt like we were alone, but in the pictures you can see how happy we were. Treasured memories."
The couple had several surprises for their guests entertainment but Katrina set up a very special treat for Andrew. "Andrew is a huge Elvis Presley fan, so of course as a surprise I booked an impersonator. Julie Patmore of Gosfield Hall was convinced that we wouldn't be able to keep it a secret from the Groom, especially as the secret went round like Chinese whispers between the guests. But we succeeded and Andrew was very surprised when Elvis walked in after the first dance! " The photographer captures a romantic moment. The inspiration for the wedding colours was down to Andrew's choice of wedding attire "My husband was adamant that he wanted a lounge suit, and as he has very strong views I had to send him out first to find a design and colour that he liked that I could then base the wedding around. Fortunately he went for a pale blue and cream."
Katrina's good friend, Mary Bicheno is a trained make-up artist. Not only did she do the brides make-up, but also the brides mother and Matron of Honour. Katrina was very pleased with the results "She really did a wonderful job". After being let down by her own hairdresser Katrina was recommended a hair dresser by Julie of Gosfield Hall "Because we live in Sussex and the hairdresser was based in Essex, we didn't have any rehearsals, so for her to come to the venue, wade her way through my interpretation of what I wanted, I think she did a fantastic job."
Katrina met Andrew at a bar in London, by St Paul's Cathedral on a hot July evening in 2001. "I was walking out of the bar with drinks for my girlfriends, when I realised that my friends were talking to a group of men. Andrew came over to help with the drinks and that was it, we spent all evening talking to each other and didn't realise that everyone had gone inside when the evening got colder." Andrew proposed on a country walk one day in September 2003. He wanted to find a memorable place to propose that the couple could come back to for many years.
